The Communication & Works Department of the Government of Punjab organized its first investor conference, focusing on enhancing public-private partnerships (PPP) to bolster economic growth in the province. The event, graced by the Minister of Planning and Development, Maryam Aurangzeb, saw significant participation from both public and private sectors, including government departments, TA market, investors, bankers, the business community from chambers of commerce and industry.
Muhammad Usman, CEO of Punjab PPP Authority (P4A), delivered a key presentation on how Punjab can compete with the global economies through PPP models. He emphasized the significant impact PPPs can have on transforming the economic landscape, particularly in sectors such as roads, transport, and urban development. He highlighted that the ongoing legal and institutional reforms will create a conducive environment for PPPs in Punjab and the recommendations provided during the conference will support the restructuring initiatives.
In her concluding remarks, Ms. Maryam Aurangzeb stressed the importance of PPPs for the future of the provincial economy. She emphasized the government's dedication to attract private investment, not just in infrastructure such as roads, but also across various sectors including industry, energy, social services, and urban development. She mentioned that necessary changes to the PPP legal framework are in progress and will tackle existing concerns. Assuring full support to investors, she announced that a second round of the conference is planned to bring in even more participants, further strengthening the initiative.
